Itinerary

The journey begins in Jakarta, Indonesia’s largest city. You will be met at the airport and transferred to a nearby hotel, where the rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy at your leisure. Alila Jakarta

Transferring back to the airport you will take a morning flight on to Kalimantan, on the Indonesian island of Borneo. On arrival you will then head to the nearby port at Kumai, where you board your traditional riverboat for the journey along the Sekonyer River. Your destination is the protected enclave of the Tanjung Puting National Park, where this afternoon you enjoy a guided excursion in search of orangutans and proboscis monkeys. Accommodation for the next three nights will be aboard a traditional wooden houseboat.

Waking up early, the day begins with a cruise along the quiet waters of the 'Crocodile River', which is home, as you might imagine, to a host of these prehistoric reptiles. Passing through the timeless landscape of the Indonesian countryside, you'll enjoy lunch along the way, before arriving at Camp Leakey later this afternoon. A renowned orangutan research and rehabilitation centre, Camp Leakey lies in the heart of the park and provides opportunities to watch the primates being fed, and perhaps take a short trek into the surrounding jungle.

Following breakfast this morning you'll set sail for the orangutan feeding station at Pondok Tanggui. The dense jungle either side provides numerous chances for spotting the resident wildlife and arriving at Pondok Tanggui in time for the morning feed, you'll join the park rangers on a small trek deep into the jungle to watch the apes feeding. After visiting the Pesalat Reforestation Camp you'll then return to the boat in time for lunch, doubtless accompanied by the calls of proboscis monkeys high up in the canopy.

Returning to Kumai this morning you will transfer back to the airport in time for the flight on to Bali. Arriving at the island's national airport, you'll then travel a short distance by private, air-conditioned car to the coastal area of Sanur, where the rest of the day will be free to enjoy at your leisure. Tandjung Sari

Today you can visit the famed Uluwatu Temple, one of the seven sea temples said to form a protective chain around the island. Perched on rocks, high above the sea, this is one of Bali's most revered temples and its dramatic setting provides the perfect spot for an Indian Ocean sunset. A chance to watch a performance of some traditional Kecak dancing will be followed by an opportunity later to enjoy some of Jimbaran Bay's famous seafood. Tandjung Sari

Visiting another of Bali's sea temples this morning, you will begin today's tour at the Tanah Lot Temple, a site steeped in Balinese mythology. From here you then drive towards the centre of the island and the town of Mengwi, which is home to the exquisite temple complex of Taman Ayun. Considered one of the islands most beautiful temples, it is still used for special occasions. The final stop of the day will then be at Ubud's famed Monkey Forest, home to hundreds of mischievous crab-eating macaques, before checking into your beautiful Ubud property. Pita Maha Resort

In the village of Mas, just outside Ubud, lives a Brahman who’s family are descendants of the holy priests who brought Hinduism to Bali in the 9th century. Today you will visit him and his family to enjoy a unique day as their guests. The day will include a chance to watch a skilled woodcarver at work, before trying your hand at creating your own masterpiece. You will also help prepare a traditional Balinese feast and receive a traditional blessing from a local priest. Pita Maha Resort

A hike through the Tukad Wos River Valley this morning provides some fine views of the surrounding countryside and the volcanic slopes of Gunung Agung, Bali's highest mountain. Enjoying some of the most spectacular light hiking country around, you'll stop later for lunch on the banks of the Wos River. The afternoon has then been set aside for a tour of a local community-based chocolate factory, where you can watch each step of the chocolate-making process before trying your hand at making your own chocolate elephants. Pita Maha Resort

Departing Bali this morning you transfer to the airport after breakfast in time to catch a flight on to Lombok Island, renowned for its surf, beaches and trekking. On arrival you will be met at the airport and driven on to Senggigi Beach on the west of the island, where the rest of the day will be at leisure. Jeeva Klui

The next two days are free to enjoy this idyllic spot at your own pace. Lying along an uninterrupted stretch of beach overlooking the Indian Ocean, the resort offers up the chances for adventure and relaxation in equal measure. Jeeva Klui

You can enjoy rejuvenating spas and holistic massages, bike rides through the rice terraces, or boat trips along the coast. Other activities include snorkelling and kayaking amongst the clear waters, or simply lounging around the infinity pool and watching the Indonesian sun track slowly across the sky. Jeeva Klui

Enjoy a day at leisure before you transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
